Terms of use

The service

MeowMap is a free, public map of stray cat sightings, run by an individual developer based in Thailand ("we", "us"). How we handle personal data is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Who can use it, and accounts

Anyone can browse the map and file a report without an account. To create an account you must be at least 13, and if you are under the age of majority where you live, have a parent's or guardian's permission.

Keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what is posted from it. One account per person, and no accounts in someone else's name.

What you post

Reports, photos and updates you post stay yours. By posting them you give MeowMap a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to host, store, resize, display and share them, including through share links, preview cards and the site's public data feed, for as long as they are on MeowMap. The licence ends when the content is deleted, apart from copies already shared by others or held briefly in backups.

You confirm that you took the photos or have the right to share them, and that posting them does not break anyone else's rights.

Rules

Post in good faith, about cats you actually saw. Do not use MeowMap to:

• harm, trap for harm, poison, sell or otherwise mistreat animals, or help anyone else find animals to do so;
• publish someone's personal details, or photos in which people, house numbers or licence plates can be identified without their consent;
• pin the inside of a private home, or reveal the location of someone who has not agreed to it;
• post false, misleading, hateful, harassing, sexual or illegal content, or advertise, spam or sell anything;
• impersonate anyone, get around rate limits or the bot check, scrape the site in a way that burdens it, or interfere with its operation or security.

Obey the law and respect private property when you look for or care for cats.

Moderation

We may edit, hide or remove any report, photo or update, and suspend or close any account, if we believe it breaks these terms or the law or puts people or animals at risk. We are not obliged to monitor everything posted. If you see something that should come down, email privacy@meowmap.fun with its link.

Not an emergency service

Reports come from members of the public and we do not check them. A cat may have moved, a status may be out of date, and a location may be approximate. MeowMap is not watched around the clock, so for an injured or endangered animal contact a local vet, rescue or the authorities directly.

Approaching, feeding or handling animals is at your own risk. Stray cats can scratch, bite or carry disease.

Availability and changes

MeowMap is provided free, as it is and as available. We may change, pause or discontinue any part of it, and we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or that content will be kept forever. Map tiles, sign-in and other features depend on third-party services with their own terms.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for content posted by others, or for anything that happens when you act on a report. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your rights as a consumer.

Ending your use

You can stop using MeowMap at any time, delete your own reports and updates, and ask us to delete your account by emailing privacy@meowmap.fun. If we close an account for breaking these terms, we may keep the content it posted removed.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Thailand, and the Thai courts have jurisdiction, without taking away any protection the law of your own country gives you as a consumer. These terms are also published in Thai and Spanish; if the versions differ, the English version prevails.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top of the page changes with them. For significant changes we will give notice on the site before they take effect. Continuing to use MeowMap after that means you accept the new terms.
